Summer is here and that means the Chicago area can get hot, hot, hot! My toddler loves anything with a little “water”, so we drove out to Blue Heron Splash Park in Bartlett for a little play time.
Aptly named for the giant blue heron that seemingly guards the sprinklers, we loved this park for lots of reasons. For one, the park is small. That means not a whole lot of kids when we visited on an 85 degree day. Huge plus! My son didn’t have to wait around to play…and, boy oh boy did he play!
I also loved that the splash pad area was gated. Great for families with little kids. Oh, and did I mention that it’s free?!?! The small parks are the best!
There is also a regular park right next to the splash pad. It had a good sized toddler area and some swings.
And it also had a huge playground for bigger kids. This is the tallest play structure I have seen in the area.
I’d say that we will definitely be back to Blue Heron Splash Park – next time we’ll pack a lunch! They have a covered shelter with a few picnic tables. A great way to get out of the summer heat!
