My baby girl is 12…and in 7th grade….and now on the volleyball team! She’s been begging me for new glasses for months now. (Yes, you may slap my hand. Her lenses are so scratched – her fault, not mine – that she should’ve been to the eye doctor eons ago.) I’ve just been so lazy err, busy that I just never made the time to make an appointment. Until recently, that is.
When I finally realized that, yes, it was time to take my child back to the eye doctor, something occurred to me. I know that in 7th grade, her school offers an athletics program for girls. (Their 1st year of middle school – 6th grade – NO athletics are offered.) She’d expressed interest throughout the summer to try out for both volleyball and basketball. So, knowing this, I asked her if contact
lenses might be something she’d want to try.
I’ll admit that I was a bit surprised at her initial unwillingness to even try contacts. I remember when I was her age and I couldn’t wait to get contacts. I begged my parents for contacts for years. I had to wait until I was a freshman in high school before my parents agreed. And here I was offering them to her in the 7th grade! What do you mean you don’t want contact lenses?!?!
We definitely needed to have a “talk” about the benefits of contact use! Bausch + Lomb SofLens Daily disposables offered some great talking points on their website and I went over them with her before her eye doctor appointment. I explained to her that:
- Not seeing a glare would help you play volleyball
- No worries about them falling off
- No need to keep them clean, daily lenses get tossed out daily
After about 30 minutes…success. She agreed to try the Bausch + Lomb SofLens Dailies! Phew – who knew I’d have to do so much convincing?! Thankfully, her optometrist agreed. Daily lenses are perfect for sports and she wanted her to try them out. Score!
